Nightly News with Brian Williams last night aired a major “In Depth”
feature story on our call to suspend holiday buying at Target stores until the
company reverses its decision to evict the Salvation Army from more than 1300
properties. Anchor Brian Williams introduced the piece that was done by
Atlanta bureau reporter Don Teague. After receiving the latest NCC news release
on the issue, Mr. Teague called Rev. Rob Schenck to ask for ideas on framing the
story. He was particularly interested in covering a church that is cooperating
in the boycott. Rev. Schenck suggested NCC executive committee member the Reverend
Dr. David Anderson of Faith Baptist Church in Sarasota. A video crew was dispatched
to the church this past Sunday and Dr. Anderson’s announcement and subsequent
interview were a prominent part of the story. Rev. Schenck has been busy
doing numerous interviews on radio and with newspapers from around the country
as momentum builds for the boycott. So far, Target has refused comment beyond
an early printed statement.
