The National Clergy Council is urging its supporters and members alike to protest Senator Arlen Specter's (R-PA) potential nomination to Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee on December 9.

The NCC is asking its for its supporters to visit their local senator's office that day to let them know the same people who brought President Bush a second term and Republicans a majority in both houses of Congress vehemently oppose the selection of a pro-abortion senator to lead this powerful committee.

In a letter to supporters sent out during his failed 1996 bid for the Presidency, Senator Specter called Christian religious leaders such as Pat Buchanan and Pat Robertson "radical extremists" and noted that pro-life supporters were part of the "far-right fringe".

In the same 1995 letter, Sen. Specter speaks adamantly about his pro-abortion position and states "I will stand up and fight those who want to criminalize abortion, those who would prosecute a woman and her doctor when they exercise the woman's right to choose."

The Chairman's position in the Senate Judiciary Committee "screens" all the president's nominees to the federal courts--including the U.S. Supreme Court. Arlen Specter has consistently supported pro-abortion, pro-homosexual politics and been against the public acknowledgement of God during his time in the Senate
