Rev.
Rob Schenck applauds the news of President Bush's Supreme Court nominee as it
comes over the radio airwaves. Faith and Action, along with the National Clergy
Council, Christian Defense Coalition and intercessory prayer group the Cause held
a joint news conference and prayer vigil on the front steps of the U.S. Supreme
Court following the news from the White House. President
Bush has nominated D.C. Court of Appeals Judge John G. Roberts for appointment
to the United States Supreme Court. Judge Roberts is a widely respected jurist
who has openly criticized Roe v. Wade and advocated for pro-life activists.
"The nomination of Judge John G. Roberts is an answer to the prayers of millions
of Americans. The President has demonstrated extraordinary moral courage and deserves
the full cooperation of the Senate in bringing about a swift confirmation."
said Rev. Rob Schenck. In response to criticism that Judge Roberts has referred
to the Roe decision as "the settled law of the land" and said
"there's nothing in my personal views that would prevent me from fully and
faithfully applying that precedent," Rev.Schenck noted, "What's important
is his record, not his hypothetical pronouncements." Faith and Action
has joined the Christian Defense Coalition in calling for Christians of every
tradition to come to Washington for prayer vigils, rallies and news conferences
beginning three days before confirmation hearings and throughout their duration.
