The National Clergy Council, representing thousands of Catholic, Evangelical, Orthodox and Protestant church leaders, today mourns the passing of Terri Schiavo. The loving care of her parents and siblings has been a stellar model of the proper concern for disabled loved ones. We pray that God will comfort them in their terrible loss.

Fr. Frank Pavone, a member of the National Clergy Council executive committee, was with Terri and her family until moments before her death and again immediately after her passing.

The National Clergy Council is committed to keeping alive the memory of Terri’s struggle and to protect dependent and disabled persons under law.

Rev. Rob Schenck, president of the National Clergy Council, today said: “Our hearts and prayers go out to Terri and her loving family. May the Lord comfort them in their grief. We must not forget Terri’s struggle and what it means for our American civilization. What we saw here was the first act of a blatant state-sanctioned murder of an innocent, disabled person. This is a new a terrifying threshold of public sin and must be dealt with swiftly. Our members will work immediately on every level to address and correct this grievous error.”

The National Clergy Council will co-sponsor a news conference tomorrow morning, April 1, at 11:00 A.M., at our Mission House at 109 Second St. NE, in Washington, DC. More information to follow.
