President
George W. Bush's election to a second term this past year was due in part to the
large number of Christians turning out to vote. Public Agenda,
a nonprofit, nonpartisan, liberal-leaning research organization has released its
findings from a national survey that compares how Americans views of religion
in public life have changed during the last four years. The results are encouraging:
There has been a significant increase in the number of Americans that believe
religion should play a larger and more substantial role in public policy, while
there has been a nearly equal decrease in the number of Americans that believe
policymakers and lawmakers should set aside their most cherished beliefs in order
to govern. The following news release and report should be encouraging to
those who have prayed and worked to bring moral and spiritual well-being back
to our ailing civilization! http://www.publicagenda.org/research/pdfs/religion_2005.pdf
